Project Maji, Airbus (through their Community Impact programme), and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) France have entered into a trilateral innovation partnership to co-develop a smart digital data system that strengthens the sustainability of rural water services.

Bringing the organisations together, Airbus provided the initial technical review and grant funding, while TCS is contributing its technological expertise pro bono. Project Maji will deploy and operationalise the resulting digital solution to enhance the reliability, efficiency and long-term performance of rural water points.

On 13 October 2026, representatives from Project Maji, Airbus and TCS came together at TCS’ office in Toulouse, France, for the official signing of the partnership agreement. The in-person meeting also provided an opportunity for the three organisations to discuss the project's objectives, explore the next steps in its development, and reaffirm their shared commitment to advancing sustainable rural water services through digital innovation.

Project Maji is on an ambitious path towards becoming financially self-sustaining as a safe water social enterprise. Reaching this milestone means that revenue from water sales fully covers all operational and maintenance costs, securing long-term financial sustainability for the communities we serve.

Digitizing key functions, such as water sales, remote monitoring, and smart-sensor–enabled maintenance, can significantly accelerate this journey. Yet Research & Development is costly, time-intensive, and requires specialized expertise.

"We're deeply grateful for the support of expert global technology partners like Airbus and TCS. Their commitment allows us to pursue innovations for Project Maji that would otherwise remain out of reach” according to Sunil Lalvani, Founder/CEO Project Maji. “With the support, this project has the potential to be truly transformative for the 450+ communities we serve across Ghana, Kenya, Uganda and Nigeria”.
