As we reflect on the past year, we are filled with immense gratitude for the incredible support we’ve received from our partners, donors, volunteers, and community members. At Project Maji we are driven by a mission to bring clean, sustainable water to rural communities across sub-Saharan Africa. This would not be possible without the unwavering dedication of our supporters.
In this season of giving thanks and reflection, we’re excited to highlight three innovative and creative partnerships that exemplify Project Maji’s unique approach to solving the challenge of access to clean, safe drinking water. These collaborations showcase how our shared commitment is making a tangible difference in people’s lives.
Creative CSR: Painting Homes, Providing Water in Ghana with LAB PAINT FOUNDATION
Thanks to our partnership with the LAB PAINT FOUNDATION, clean water is now within reach for 1,800 members of two rural communities in Ghana. In Oppongkrom, unreliable water access once forced residents to gather unsafe surface water. Now, a newly installed kiosk serves the local health clinic, providing consistent, safe water access. In Antoabasa, a community in the Central region of Ghana, where broken boreholes left residents without water, the first Maji kiosk installation near the primary school ensures reliable access to clean water, with the potential for future expansion.
Since 2023, almost 1.5 million liters of safe, clean drinking water have been provided to community members. This three-year initiative with LAB PAINT FOUNDATION, supported by Vestingh Paint • Craft • Lifestyle, highlights the power of creative CSR in driving lasting impact. With every purchase of LAB PAINT, you’re not only enhancing your home but also helping supply clean drinking water to communities in need.
Innovative Financing: Ensuring Sustainable, Reliable Water Access with Uptime
Since 2023, Project Maji has partnered with Uptime Catalyst Facility for a unique, innovative results-based funding partnership to ensure sustainable, reliable water services across 60 managed sites in Ghana. Uptime Catalyst Facility, a UK-registered charity, addresses the rural water finance gap by funding essential maintenance and operational support. How does it work exactly? This agreement supports our commitment to providing consistent water access. When meeting key performance indicators—like maintaining a 96% uptime for waterpoints—Uptime enables results-based grant funding to subsidize the operational costs.
We applaud this approach supporting our service provision vision with the installation of every solar-powered water kiosk, focused on sustainability and functionality. By bridging this gap, Uptime enables us to deliver uninterrupted water access, a critical step toward universal safe water availability in underserved regions. Successful Consortium: Expanding Clean Water Access with Ugandan Water Project
In collaboration with Ugandan Water Project (UWP), Project Maji is proud to contribute to the WaterTime consortium, a cross-cutting initiative led by Woord & Daad. This partnership brings together diverse expertise to deliver sustainable, solar-powered water access to rural communities in Central Uganda.
Since 2021, UWP has successfully adopted Project Maji’s solar-powered water solutions, transitioning from handpumps to solar systems. The first Maji water system was launched in June 2022 and serves as a model for efficient, reliable rural water access.
As part of the WaterTime consortium, we’re combining forces with UWP, Woord & Daad, and Practica Foundation to tackle water poverty. We have successfully installed 15 solar-powered systems and 36 communal access points. Together, we’re transforming access to safe water for over 26,000 people, proving the power of collaborative action in driving sustainable impact. Learn more in our case study on expanding to Uganda.
A Heartfelt Thank You
These stories represent just a few examples of how Project Maji’s mission is being brought to life through our creative partnerships tackling water poverty.
As Wieke de Vries, our Director of Development & Partnerships, says:
"All the lives we have transformed are thanks to the many partners and donors who support our work. Each partnership is different, but every single supporter matters to us. We work with institutional donors, governments, corporate sponsors, individuals and knowledge institutes. They contribute to the scale at which we can deliver safe, sustainable drinking water projects."
The incredible support from our partners, donors, and volunteers—whether financial, in-kind, or through dedicated time—is directly changing lives and creating lasting impact in communities that need it most. Thank you for your generosity, your commitment, and your belief in our mission to end water poverty.
